In this episode, we speak with boxing champion Christy Martin / Salters.
Christy, born in West Virginia, was a top State basketball prospect and awarded a scholarship to Concord college, where she completed a degree in Education. With a burning desire to pursue a career in boxing, she won 3 consecutive Tough Woman titles before becoming the most successful female boxer in history. Knowing that she was lesbian as early as 12, she held this secret for the next 4 decades while winning multiple World Championships.
As fate takes no prisoners and bleeds only truth, she disguised her sexuality by marrying her abusive trainer, Jim Martin.
Chasing her 50th win and now in her early forties, she confronted her narcissistic sociopathic husband demanding from him a divorce. She fully anticipated his yearly threats of killing her if she ever left him and on that stand for freedom, she then endured vicious multiple stabbings and a point blank gunshot to the chest and left for dead.
Synchronicity, not fate, stepped in and somehow she survived and is now an International Ambassador of abuse prevention and recovery as well as the CEO of boxing events company, Christy Martin Promotions. Happily married to a former ring rival, Lisa, they celebrated their 3rd wedding anniversary in November 2020. From being an HBO and Las Vegas Headliner and now a global advocate for respect and honor, her legacy comes alive in her interview before her last fight: Hit them on the chin and they go to sleep.
